Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interest in Aston Villa midfielder, Jacob Ramsay, with the 22-year-old attracting interest from a host of clubs in England and abroad, as per The Athletic.
The England u21 International has been a pivotal part of Villa’s squad having come through the ranks at the club, making his first team debut in September 2020 against Fulham under former head coach, Dean Smith. He has since become a regular in the team. This season, Ramsey has featured in 10 Premier League matches as well as 14 appearances across all competitions for the high-flying Unai Emery’s side.
Along with Tottenham, Newcastle United and Bundesliga side, Bayern Munich are reported to have their admiration clear for the versatile midfielder, with Newcastle making an approach for Ramsey as they aim to reinforce their squad.
Should Villa decide to part ways with the academy graduate, there will undoubtedly be no shortage of interested parties vying for his signature.
However, this decision hinges on a significant ‘if’ given Ramsey’s integral role within the team. Ideally, Villa would prefer not to entertain such a notion. Yet, financial considerations loom large, particularly with the imperative to generate funds by the end of June to adhere to profit and sustainability regulations. This predicament has piqued the interest of potential suitors, who are prepared to table offers upwards of £50 million ($63.5 million), a figure that Villa, at the very least, will contemplate.
Need for depth
Tottenham started the season in red-hot form, sitting at the cusp of the League until significant injuries to key players exposed their lack of squad depth, and performances on the pitch failed to replicate results. This led to a slump in form and although Spurs are beginning to bounce back, they currently sit in fifth place in the Premier League standings.
Having added Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig as well as Radu Dragusin from Serie A side, Genoa, Spurs are beginning to address their depth concerns and are now showing interest in Aston Villa’s versatile midfielder, Ramsey.
The midfielder is on £75k-per-week deal at Villa Park, and meeting personal terms should not be a big problem.
With interest from Newcastle and Bayern, it remains to be seen how swiftly Spurs will act to add Ramsey to their ranks. At the moment, any potential deal looks unlikely but anything can happen in the transfer window.
