Tottenham Hotspur are “pressing ahead” with their plans to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher in the January transfer window, according to a report from The Independent.
Spurs have been very active in the winter market, having secured the signing of Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig. On top of that, they have reached an agreement to sign Radu Dragusin who is currently on his way to London to complete his medical.
After securing two of the top three targets, the “next target” for Ange Postecoglou is to sign Gallagher. Miguel Delaney now claims Spurs want to secure a midfielder in the break between Sunday’s trip to Manchester United and the FA Cup fourth-round game against Manchester City.
He adds that Chelsea are willing to do business at the right price, which means Spurs need to pay around £50m to secure his services.
Gallagher would be cracking signing for Spurs
It won’t be easy to lure Gallagher away from Stamford Bridge. He has become one of the key players under Mauricio Pochettino, and the Argentine boss trusts him heavily in his 4-3-3 system.
Even if Spurs come up with a tempting offer, Chelsea may reject their advance because Pochettino is reluctant to let him go during an inconsistent period at the club.
Gallagher is enjoying his best phase as a midfielder at Chelsea and he has been given greater responsibility. In the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell, he has captained the side.
It looks like Postecoglou wants someone in midfielder who can bring dynamism and energy. Gallagher is a box-to-box midfielder who runs tirelessly. He can play at the head of midfield and can alternate with James Maddison if required.
Having already spent £30m to sign Dragusin, it will be really exciting for the fans if Spurs manage to secure another big-money transfer to sign a player from rival club.
