West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer close to joining Monaco on loan

West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer is close to joining French club AS Monaco on loan in the January transfer window.

According to Sky Germany journalist, Florian Plettenberg, Kehrer’s move to Monaco is “almost a done deal now”.

Kehrer has been surplus to requirements at the London Stadium and he has struggled to get regular games under David Moyes.

He was heavily linked with a move away from West Ham in January, and Plettenberg says that the first contract was exchanged in the past one or two days. If everything goes well, Kehrer could fly to Monaco and finalise the deal as early as Thursday (4 December).

Monaco are paying a loan fee of €500k for the 27-year-old defender and they are signing for the next six months only. However, they do have an obligation to buy him for around €11.5m.

Who else could leave West Ham?

The Hammers need to offload some of their players to make room for new additions. Said Benrahma has been linked with a move away to Lyon, and it looks like David Moyes could allow him to leave in January.

There has been reports that clubs in Saudi Arabia are interested in signing Nayef Aguerd, but the centre-back wants to stay in the Premier League. Moreover, West Ham will not allow him to leave on loan as he is an integral part of his plans.

West Ham have progressed to the knock-out rounds of the Europa League and the club must back their manager with proper funds to bring in the right quality of players.
