West Ham are one of the clubs showing keen interest in signing Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers in the January transfer window, according to a report from Daily Record.
The Hammers are looking to bolster their squad in the January transfer window, and signing a defender could be a priority for them, having sold Thilo Kehrer already.
The 26-year-old has been a key player for Celtic over the past few seasons, and he is integral to Brendan Rodgers’s plans.
The report says that it will take a bid over £6m, the amount the Hoops paid to sign Carter-Vickers from Tottenham, but the Scottish champions are bracing for bids.
The Bhoys defender has got two-and-a-half years left to run on the deal, so expect Celtic to demand a high transfer fee for him.
Along with West Ham, the likes of Nottingham Forest and Brentford are also keen to sign him. The Hammers have been monitoring the Celtic defender throughout this season, and it will be interesting to see if they come up with a formal bid in the next few days.
Need to ship out players?
The Hammers may need to ship out some players to make room for new additions. Nayef Aguerd is a key player for David Moyes but he is being chased by Saudi clubs.
West Ham do not want to sell him, but in case he leaves, Carter-Vickers could be a decent replacement. He has grown into a top-quality defender at Celtic, and could be willing to prove himself again in the Premier League.
The Hammers could be willing to offload the likes of Ben Johnson and Said Benrahma to free up some space. Carter-Vickers has made 17 appearances for the Bhoys this season in all competitions, and losing him in the middle of the season could be a huge blow for the club.
