West Ham are one of the three Premier League clubs to have shown interest in signing former Celtic player, Jota, according to talkSPORT.
The Hammers are looking to add a few players to their ranks in the final few days of the January transfer window, and adding a new winger is one of David Moyes’s top priorities.
The report claims that West Ham have held talks with Jota who is desperate to leave Al Ittihad. He joined the Saudi Arabain club last summer from Celtic in a £25million deal.
He became the club’s record signing but wasn’t registered for the club’s domestic squad. As a result, he has struggled for games this season, and Al Ittihad are happy to cut their losses.
The Hammers are equally keen to bolster their attacking unit after Michail Antonio suffered a setback in his recovery from a long-term hamstring problem, and they have now started making contacts to sign Jota.
Good signing
The 24-year-old winger was a key player for Celtic under Ange Postecoglou and he would have a cracking signing for David Moyes.
He scored 28 goals in 83 games for Celtic and played a pivotal role in helping the Bhoys win back-to-back league titles. West Ham failed to replace Gianluca Scamacca last summer, and they are short of options with Antonio being injured.
Lucas Paqueta is another key player who is currently out of action. If the Hammers can move quickly, they have a good chance of securing a deal for him, although two unknown Premier League clubs are in the race as well.
The Hammers are close to signing Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City for the rest of the season. They are also after FC Nordsjaelland’s Ibrahim Osman and the club are in talks to bring him to the London Stadium in the January transfer window.
