West Ham in hunt to sign Leeds forward Wilfried Gnonto

Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto is attracting a lot of attention, and West Ham could be interested in signing him, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, the reliable transfer expert has suggested that the Hammers could be interested in signing Gnonto as David Moyes is looking to bolster his forward region.

The 20-year-old is seen as a “phenomenal” talent, and Jones says that the Whites are willing to let Gnonto leave. He is a gem of a talent, but has managed only seven starts in the Championship this season under Daniel Farke.

He has managed one goal and an assist in the Championship this season, as most of his appearances have come from the bench. The Whites did enough to fend off interest from other clubs during the summer for Gnonto, and they are very intent on keeping him again.

Everton are one of the clubs thought to be interested in signing Gnonto, but Jones says that the Hammers could “definitely” explore the option of signing him.

“I think West Ham need someone with more authority to go and immediately cut it in the Premier League, they’re in a strong position if they can find the right person to hit the ground running,” said Jones.

“Steven Bergwijn has been highly recommended to them, Wilfried Gnonto at Leeds is someone who has been mentioned, definitely explore that one because if Leeds are willing to let Gnonto go you will have a gem on your hands there.”

Should Leeds sell him?

It has to be kept in mind that Gnonto tried to force his way out of the club in the summer transfer window, but the move didn’t happen. Following Leeds’ relegation to the Championship, he wanted to leave, but the Whites rejected several offers to keep him.

Farke was forced to sell some of the key players during the summer. Leeds, however, slapped a high price tag on Gnonto and refused to lower their demands.

The lack of game time could be a factor as to why Leeds could be willing to sell him if they receive a handsome offer.

West Ham are looking to add more quality to their attacking areas. They have targeted the likes of Jack Clarke and Steven Bergwijn in the January window, and Gnonto could be on their list as well this month.
