West Ham are keeping close eye on Portuguese winger Jota ahead of the January transfer window.
According to a report from Sky Sports journalist, Dharmesh Sheth, the Hammers are weighing up whether to bring in some players in the January window.
David Moyes is missing some key players through injuries. On top of that, West Ham aspire to qualify for European competition next season, and for that quality additions are needed.
The Hammers are unlikely to secure long-term targets in this window. As a result, they are exploring the loan market, knowing some of their injured players are expected to return as early as next month.
Jota joined Al-Itthad from Celtic in July for £25m after two successful years, but he has struggled to make an impact. He was not included in their squad for the Saudi Pro League season after the summer window closed and he has been linked with a move to Tottenham as well.
Sheth claims that one of the reasons why the deal could prove problematic is because of the wages. Sky Sports claims that he is on £200,000 a week wages, and it could be a major issue.
The Hammers are especially keen on adding depth in their attacking areas and they are looking at Nordsjaelland winger Ibrahim Osman.
Jota would be a quality signing
The Portuguese must have understood that he made a big mistake by moving to Saudi Arabia. He has a chance to resurrect his career by moving to the Premier League.
Tottenham probably have better chance of signing him if they make an offer, but he could also choose to join the Hammers. West Ham can offer him European football as well in the second half of the season.
Jota is a dynamic winger who can score goals and provide assists. He was a key part of Ange Postecoglou’s side at Celtic, and could make a big impact at West Ham. However, his wages could be a major issue.
