West Ham set sight on Genoa midfielder Albert Gudmundsson

West Ham United are keeping tabs on Genoa attacker Albert Gudmundsson, according to a report from Calciomercato.

The 26-year-old is having an incredible season in the Italian top flight having arrived from Az Alkmaar two seasons ago. He has recorded 8 Serie A goals and 10 goals across all competitions for Genoa this season. His performances for Alberto Gilardino’s side have not gone unnoticed with several European top clubs paying close attention to his progress.

Along with West Ham, Aston Villa, Inter Milan and Juventus are all interested in Iceland International. Following a report from Gazzetta dello Sport as relayed by Calciomercato, Juventus are preparing an official proposal for the player in June.

Gudmundsson’s contract at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris will run until June 2027. Having joined ii Grifone for less than €2m, Gudmundsson’s value has risen and the Italian club will unlikely sell him for less than €30m.

Prolific

West Ham United’s quest for a prolific forward has set its sights on Serie A, with Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson catching the attention of scouting networks across Europe.

Acquiring Gudmundsson appears to be a logical choice for West Ham, actively pursuing attacking reinforcements under David Moyes this summer. Amidst growing interest from various clubs, the Icelandic forward’s standout performances for Genoa in the current season, boasting ten goals and three assists in 20 appearances, have garnered well-deserved acclaim.

Securing Gudmundsson would enhance West Ham’s attacking prowess, a crucial addition as they navigate the knockout stages of the Europa League, necessitating increased depth.

Moyes sees Gudmundsson as a potential solution to the strategic framework that emphasizes introducing creativity and resourcefulness in the attacking third.

However, the looming €30m price tag poses a significant consideration in the potential deal. The delicate balance between bolstering the squad and managing financial implications adds an intriguing dimension to West Ham’s transfer endeavours.

The Hammers currently sit in sixth place in the Premier League standings with 34 points, six points below fourth-placed Arsenal whom they recorded an impressive victory against on matchday 20.
