Alan Shearer blown away by ‘magnificent’ Richarlison

Tottenham Hotspur remain unbeaten in their last four games in the Premier League but Ange Postecoglou won’t be happy with the latest result.

Spurs suffered a 2-2 draw against Everton on Saturday (3 February) at Goodison Park where Richarlison scored both goals.

Just when it seemed that the northern London club would pick up a precious three points, deep in stoppage time, Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite rescued the Toffees with a close header.

Nevertheless, Richarlison is getting loads of praise from pundits like Garth Crooks and Dion Dublin, and Alan Shearer has waxed lyrical about the Brazilian as well.

The Newcastle legend and popular pundit has picked the 26-year-old forward in his Premier League Team of the Week and hailed him for his “magnificent” second goal.

Richarlison usually has scored close-range goals, but Shearer suggests that the Brazilian “showed he can be clinical” from long-range efforts as well.

“After tucking away yet another close-range goal, he showed he can be clinical from further out too, with a magnificent finish outside the box,” said Shearer.

Spurs paid a lot of money to sign Richarlison from Everton and for the first time, he is looking like getting back to his old best.

The Brazilian has struggled to exert his influence at the club at the start of the season, but he is finally showing his true talent, after scoring nine goals in his last eight games.

In the absence of Son Heung-Min, he has taken the onerous burden of scoring and has been delivered so far. It will be interesting to see how Postecoglou uses him once Son returns from international duty.

Richarlison is equally comfortable playing on the left flank, so Postecoglou could make some tactical changes to get the best out of both.

There have been suggestions that Tottenham could look to offload Richarlison next summer. If he continues this scoring form, Spurs won’t be willing to let him go anywhere.

With that result, Tottenham have dropped to fifth in the table, two points behind Aston Villa.
