Chelsea add Simone Inzaghi to managerial wishlist, Liverpool & Man United also keen

Chelsea have enquired about the availability of Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi amid growing uncertainty over Mauricio Pochettino’s future, Tuttosport reports.

Pochettino has struggled to get going this season, with his side languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table after taking 35 points from 25 games.

The Blues had a chance to land a trophy which could have been monumental for the growth of their project, but they let it slip away with Liverpool snatching the EFL Cup glory in extra time.

Winning the Carabao Cup would also have guaranteed Chelsea a route into Europe next season, but the Blues now have to ensure they finish the season strongly to stand a chance.

With nine points separating them from sixth-placed Manchester United, a positive run of form could propel Pochettino’s side into contention for Europa League qualification.

However, the chances of that happening are slim, and the Blues have begun scouring the market for potential replacements should they decide to part ways with Pochettino at the end of the season.

Inzaghi is the latest name on their shortlist. At the end of the season, the Italian tactician would have one year left on his contract at the Guiseppe Meazza.

The 47-year-old is one of the most sought-after managers in Serie A following his exploits with Inter.

He has led the Nerazzurri to two Coppa Italia and three Supercoppa Italiana titles while steering them to the Champions League final last season.

Inzaghi’s resume is bested only by Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri in the Italian top flight, with the Inter boss yet to land the league title with the Nerazzurri.

However, after missing out to arch nemesis AC Milan by two points in 2021/22, Inzaghi’s side are currently on their way to a first Scudetto since 2020/21 as they sit atop the Serie A table, nine points ahead of Juventus.

Inzaghi’s tactical system and his track record of improving the talent at his disposal would be a perfect fit for Chelsea. But they’ll have to fend off competition from Liverpool,  Manchester United, and Barcelona.

Chelsea have also shortlisted Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim, who is considered one of the most promising young tacticians in Portugal.
