Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that German champions Bayern Munich considered a sensational move for Chelsea flop Mykhailo Mudryk in January.
The Bundesliga holders were in the market for a new forward after Kingsley Coman picked up an injury, and Romano has confirmed they explored a potential deal for Mudryk.
However, Chelsea wasted no time slamming the door on a potential exit for the Ukrainian international despite his struggles at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea forked out an initial £68 million to sign the 23-year-old from Shakhtar Donetsk in the 2023 winter transfer window, but he has failed to live up to expectations.
Mudryk has shown just flashes of the brilliance he displayed in his homeland, but the Blues remain hopeful the ex-Arsenal target will silence his doubters.
The Ukrainian has shown he has pace to burn but has done so without direction and lacks the composure to cause any significant damage in the final third.
Mudryk has bagged three goals and three assists in 19 Premier League games this season but faces a tall order in reclaiming a place in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line-up with Christopher Nkunku back from injury.
Meanwhile, Chelsea academy graduate Ian Maatsen, who has impressed since joining Borussia Dortmund last month, could secure a permanent Stamford Bridge exit this summer.
Maatsen has created three big chances and returned two assists in five Bundesliga outings. He also averages 1.2 key passes per 90, has won 52% of his ground battles and helped keep three clean sheets.
Despite his impressive displays, his future at Chelsea appears dead in the water, especially with Pochettino at the helm, with Romano reporting that the youngster is poised to leave the club at the end of the season.
Maatsen has a £35m release clause in the short team deal he signed with the Blues before joining Dortmund, and that price is starting to look like a bargain, especially if he keeps up the good form.
