Celtic came from behind to beat Motherwell 3-1 in the Scottish Premiership clash at Fir Park on Sunday (25 February).
An inspiring second-half performance from the Bhoys saw them sealing all three points as they closed the gap with Rangers at the top to two points.
Adam Idah, who came on as a substitute, scored twice while Luis Palma added another as Celtic secured a “monumental” victory.
Within only a few minutes left on the clock, Idah scored the crucial second goal that brought huge relief to the Celtic camp. Chris Sutton has hailed him as “sensational”, and also praised Yang Hyun-Jun who was terrific on the right-hand side.
In fact, Celtic enjoyed most of their dominance on the right-hand side, and Motherwell failed to block that route in the second half. It would have been a massive psychological blow for the Hoops had they dropped further points, but to secure a win in this fashion could now galvanize the side.
“Sensational second half from Adam Idah. Two brilliant, brilliant finishes. Yang excellent wide on the right and gave some much needed threat and quality. Celtic cannot continue to play for just 45 minutes every game… Motherwell’s Lennon Miller looks a player,” wrote Sutton on X.
Adam Idah made the difference for Celtic
Ahead of the match, Sutton wrote in his Daily Record column that Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers needs to start with Kyogo Furuhashi in a 4-3-3 system.
Kyogo started the game but he failed to make an impact and was taken off at the break. Idah, who replaced him in the second half, made an instant impact.
The 23-year-old, who joined the Bhoys on loan in January, scored immediately to restore parity. Celtic threw bodies forward and created loads of chances, but they just couldn’t find the breakthrough.
Eventually, two goals in the stoppage time sealed the tie in their favour. Sutton is absolutely spot on that Celtic cannot continue to turn up in just one half and look disjointed in the other half.
