Chris Sutton predicts scoreline of Crystal Palace clash v Burnley

Crystal Palace will face Burnley at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Saturday in Oliver Glasner’s first game in charge.

The Eagles decided to sack Roy Hodgson from the job last week and they appointed Glasner in place immediately.

Chris Sutton feels that the new boss cannot solve all problems overnight, but the atmosphere won’t be toxic at Selhurst Park.

The new Palace boss has made it clear that he doesn’t have the time to implement a new tactical approach ahead of this game. So, all he can do is inspire his players to give their best shot.

Palace drew 1-1 against Everton in their previous game on Monday night. He said that he was impressed by the support of Palace fans in the previous game but admits that he can’t weave magic overnight.

Burnley suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat against Arsenal in the previous game, and Sutton doesn’t think the Clarets will pick up a win either. He predicts Crystal Palace to pick up a 1-0 win for this game.

“I really don’t know what to make of Burnley despite being at Turf Moor for their defeat by Arsenal last weekend. That was such a mis-match, but I don’t how damaging a defeat it will prove to be for Vincent Kompany’s side,” said Sutton to BBC Sport

“The Clarets will stand a much better chance against Palace, but the Eagles are a bit of an unknown quantity in Oliver Glasner’s first game in charge.

“You cannot just switch overnight from one playing style to another, so it is going to take time for Glasner to make a difference, but there should be a positive atmosphere at Selhurst Park and I can see the new manager ‘bounce’ working for them here.”

Crystal Palace lurch in a fresh direction

The Eagles are 15th in the Premier League table, only five points ahead of Luton Town. They have picked up only one win in 2024 in the Premier League and the club made the right decision to relieve Hodgson of his duties.

Palace have managed only two wins in their last 14 Premier League games. They are winless in their last three games in the Premier League which shows the situation at the club is far from ideal.

Burnley are almost certain to drop down in the Championship having picked up only 13 points thus far. They have managed only three wins in the Premier League under Vincent Kompany, and are winless in their last seven Premier League games.

This is a good opportunity for Palace to pick up a vital win here, and Sutton thinks they are likely to pick up all three points.
