Patrick Bamford came off the bench and scored the final goal as Leeds United secured a precious 3-1 win against Leicester City on Friday night (23 February).
In an action-packed thriller at Elland Road, the Foxes took a deserved lead through Wout Faes. They had control for most of the game but the final 15 minutes saw a dramatic change in fortune.
Leeds scored three quick goals to put the game to bed. Even 2-1, Leicester probably could have sneaked a late equalizer, but Bamford made sure that they keep their winning run in 2024 going.
In the dying minutes of the games, Dan James’ free-kick from 20 yards out was nicely tucked in by Bamford, which was primarily an instinctive reaction from him.
After the game, Daniel Farke was absolutely pleased with Bamford’s effort. He has praised his natural finishing ability, and added that he is very “dangerous” in the penalty area.
“He is a natural finisher when he’s fit and in his rhythm. Good anticipation for where it could be dangerous. Blessed with a gift. Something you cannot learn. Always feel he could be involved in a goal. Not a coincidence he deflected this free-kick. He knows he has to be in this position,” said Farke, as quoted by Leeds Live.

Bamford has struggled with injuries in recent years and it must be a nightmare experience for him. He failed to keep himself fit for a long stretch of games and it has affected the club.
At one point, it really felt like he had no future under Farke and the club may look to sell him. But things have looked better in recent games, and he has now managed five goals in six starts this season.
The 30-year-old admitted recently that he is enjoying his best spell after a long time. He missed out on the previous few games with an injury, but Farke will be very happy to have him back.
Bamford should look to play regularly for the rest of the season and score more goals for the club. Leeds have closed the gap at the top to six points and they should feel they can fight for the Championship title, although Farke will take it one game at a time.
