Darwin Nunez reportedly not in the Liverpool matchday squad to face Luton Town on Wednesday

Liverpool will be without Uruguay international striker Darwin Nunez when they host Luton Town at Anfield on Wednesday, according to the Times.

Nunez featured for Liverpool against Brentford on Saturday, bagging a goal in the 4-1 win before making way for Cody Gakpo in the second-half.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp did not give any update on the 24-year-old after it appeared that the South American was taken off during the game as a precaution.

Nunez has nine Premier League goals and seven assists in 24 appearances for the Reds this term, and being without him against the Hatters could be a blow.

However, Liverpool will fancy their chances without him, with Gakpo ready to step up after bagging a goal after coming on against the Bees last weekend.

The Merseysiders have a growing injury list, with Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, Joel Matip, Ben Doak, Stefan Bajcetic and Dominik Szoboszlai also all unavailable for selection.

Liverpool are currently two points clear at the top of the Premier League table and will need to win tomorrow to keep up their title charge heading into the business end of the 2023-24 campaign.

They cannot afford further injury blows and manager Jurgen Klopp will hope Nunez and some of the other injured stars can be available for selection before Liverpool take on Chelsea in the final of the Carabao Cup on Sunday.

It is unclear whether the Uruguayan has suffered a serious injury or whether the Reds have just decided to rest him for the midweek match ahead of the game against the Blues, and here is how they are likely to line up against Luton.
