Leeds United will take on Leicester City in the Championship table on Friday night and it’s going to be a massive clash in the race.
The Whites have won all their games in the Championship in 2024 and they can reduce the deficit at the top to six points if they win their game at Elland Road.
David Prutton wrote in his column for the Yorkshire Evening Post that the battle between Stephy Mavididi and Archie Gray could be a “key battle”. Likewise, he thinks Leeds will be really tested at the back, and that Joe Rodon needs to be on top of his game.
The Sky Sports pundit also says that Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could be a key man for Leicester, and Leeds need to make plans for him as well.
“Mavididi up against Archie Gray feels like a potentially key battle given the ability of both players on the ball and the types of season they are having,” wrote Prutton.
“Defensively Leeds are going to be really tested and they are going to need Joe Rodon absolutely bang at it and midfield is going to be a really key area I think – the ability of Dewsbury-Hall to get beyond the defence and the last man and Leeds needing that ability to be able to track him.”
Leeds need to stay solid at the back
Rodon has played a key role in Daniel Farke’s Leeds side this season and it’s a big game for him as well. The 26-year-old, who joined on loan from Tottenham, has been simply outstanding this season and his performances will be closely followed in this mouth-watering Championship encounter.
Leeds are keen to sign the Welshman permanently and they will have a better chance of doing it if they return to the Premier League. According to Football London, Rodon shouldn’t be short of offers irrespective of whether Leeds secure promotion at the end of the season.
Rodon initially forged a strong partnership with Pascal Struijk at the back. But following Struijk’s injury, he has formed a solid partnership with Ethan Ampadu – and it has proved to be hugely successful for Farke’s side.
The centre-back has been a colossus at the back for Leeds this season and Prutton is absolutely spot on that the Whites need him to be on top of his game against Leicester City.
