Leeds United will face Leicester City in the Championship on Friday night at Elland Road and it’s a massive game for them.
The Whites are second in the league, nine points behind the Foxes, but they have a great chance here to reduce the gap to three points.
Sky Sports pundit, David Prutton says that if Leeds pick up a win tonight (23 February), then winning the Championship title could be a “very realistic target” for them.
The Whites have been outstanding in 2024 having won all their games so far since the turn of the year. Daniel Farke’s side have won eight games in a row, and the confidence stems from here.
Prutton also suggests that the atmosphere at Elland Road could make a big difference as well.
“But a huge part of what could potentially favour Leeds come the end of the season is that crowd which could be an advantage for them,” wrote Prutton for the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“The fact that it is on a Friday night just adds that little bit of magic that comes with a bumper Elland Road under the lights and it’s going to be absolutely fantastic.
“If the gap becomes six points then absolutely Leeds can still win the title. Of course. That would then put them in a position where it is not insurmountable at all and it becomes a very realistic target I think given what we’ve seen from them and what we know they are capable of.”
Leeds involved in a thrilling race for promotion
This is arguably one of the biggest games of the season, and Leeds are really up for it. A win here would be massive for the Whites and they will believe that they can go all the way without dropping enough points.
To be fair, Farke won’t be thinking about winning the title at the moment. Leeds have taken one game at a time, and forget about everything. Leicester, even if they lose tonight, will have to drop more points to allow Leeds to overtake them. It’s a long journey.
What should be really interesting is that there is a thrilling race going on for the race for promotion. Leeds share the same points with Ipswich while Southampton, who are only two points behind them, could feel they have a chance here as well.
