Everton winger Dwight McNeil is enjoying a rich vein of form at the moment and his partnership with Vitalii Mykolenko has been a major talking point under Sean Dyche this season.
The 24-year-old versatile attacking midfielder has managed two goals and four assists in 18 Premier League starts this season. He has become a key player under Dyche, and he is enjoying his time at Goodison Park.
McNeil missed the opening three league games of the season due to an ankle injury, but he has returned sharply. In an interview with Everton Tv, McNeil has shared glowing reviews about his teammate, Vitalii Mykolenko, who has been absolutely brilliant this season.
The left-back, who was signed by Rafa Benitez, has been the epitome of consistency, and the duo has maintained a strong partnership on the left flank as if they share a telepathic understanding.
McNeil says that the 24-year-old left-back is a “class” player and adds that he has been “amazing” all season.
“He’s class, Meeks,” said McNeil. “We sit next to each other in the changing room – at Finch Farm and on game days, both at home and away. He’s great. I really like him a lot and we get on well. We have good conversations. His English is really good now, he talks more and gets involved which is nice. He’s a top man and you can see his quality as a player. He’s playing so well this season.
“Defensively he’s been amazing, with some of his blocks, tackles and one-v- one defending and then he’s been effective going forward as well. He’s impacting games at both ends. I think we’re starting to build a good little partnership and an understanding with each other.”
Task ahead
Everton have picked up more wins than last season already and one could see a massive improvement under Sean Dyche.
They would have been higher up the table they had not been docked ten points, but that is something the players have no control over.
The Toffees are once again fighting for survival and they need more wins under their belt. The recent form is cause for concern. They have been playing well, but are six games without a win now in the Premier League.
It could extend to seven this weekend as they face Manchester City next. Dyche has brought the best out of both McNeil and Mykolenko, and long it may continue.
