Chelsea playmaker Enzo Fernandez is determined to remain at Stamford Bridge despite unfounded rumours linking him with a summer exit.
The club’s disappointing campaign has stirred up speculation suggesting the World Cup winner is unsettled in London and could head for the door next summer.
However, his agent has debunked those rumours, reaffirming Fernandez’s commitment and desire to succeed despite the current situation at the club.
“The player has no intention of leaving,” Enzo’s agent Uriel Perez said (via AS). “The leaders were very clear with this project.
“It is a plan that was going to be difficult at the beginning because new and young players were going to arrive, but when the pieces of the team fit together well, Chelsea was going to move forward.
“Enzo Fernandez’s desire is to be on the team and succeed. We don’t meet with any clubs or try to talk to any clubs. We know what the player’s desire is.
“Obviously, he would like the club to be in another position, but that will be achieved with work.”
Fernandez joined Chelsea in January last year for a British record £106 million and has been a transformative influence in midfield, bagging five goals and three assists in 50 appearances.
He has been one of the few bright sparks of the Todd Boehly era and continues to be a crucial part of Mauricio Pochettino’s set-up, with the manager under immense pressure.
The 23-year-old has been a regular fixture in the line-up this season, clocking up five goals and an assist in 28 appearances across all competitions.
Chelsea consider Fernandez to be vital to their long-term plans, but his career in London hasn’t gone according to script, considering the current situation at the club.
However, the two-time Champions League winners are certainly not considering cashing in on the Argentina international, who signed an eight-and-a-half-year contract when he joined from Benfica.
