Celtic are tied with Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership table and we have a fascinating title race on our hands.
The Bhoys have struggled with injury problems this season, and Brendan Rodgers will need all his key players fit and firing for the rest of the season.
Gordon Strachan says that the Hoops can handle the absence of every player in the side except Callum McGregor. The former Celtic boss says that the 30-year-old midfielder is “irreplaceable” and Celtic will be in deep trouble if he picks up an injury.
He has called for the midfielder to be protected. This season, players like Reo Hatate, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Greg Taylor have picked up injury problems and missed a lot of action.
“I think that Celtic can handle the absences of every single player apart from one man: Callum McGregor,” said Strachan, as quoted by Glasgow Times.
“He is irreplaceable. If he got injured, I would be worried.
“If I was a Celtic fan, I wouldn’t worry about what Brendan is saying to the media, I’d be worried about keeping McGregor fit for the remainder of the season.”
Club legend
Since breaking into the first-team from the youth academy, McGregor has been a symbol of consistency for the Scottish champions.
This is his 10th senior season at the club, and he has been outstanding once again. Due to injuries and other problems, Celtic have not been at their imperious best this season.
They failed to put up any sort of positive performance in the Champions League this season, and have dropped points away from home. They have also allowed Rangers to cut the eight-point gap at the top of the table.
However, Mcgregor has been consistent with his performances. Even when other players have looked ordinary, McGregor has come out with some distinction. He is vital to Celtic’s success this season, and the club can’t think of him getting injured.
