Leeds United have closed the gap at the top of the Championship to six points after they earned a 3-1 win over Leicester City on Friday night at Elland Road.
Until the 79th minute, the visitors were leading, and it looked like they would do something that others have failed to do this season – that is pick up a win at Elland Road. However, in the next 15 minutes, Leeds scripted a different story.
Once Connor Roberts scored the equaliser, the atmosphere at Elland Road reached new heights. It inspired Leeds to score two more goals and sealed the tie in their favour. Leeds remained undefeated at home this season.
After the final whistle, the stadium erupted as the fans sang out to the tune – “I predict a riot”. Only a couple of weeks ago, Leicester were leading by 12 points, and now the gap has been reduced to six points. Naturally, there is now a sense of belief that Leeds can further close the gap if the Foxes drop more points.

Leeds United riding high on momentum
Since the turn of the year, Leeds have shifted gears. They have won all of their games in the league so far in 2024 and are currently on a winning run of nine games in a row.
Daniel Farke probably won’t get carried away by the thoughts of winning the title, rather he will tell his boys to focus on every game, and let the table do the talking. The race for promotion is heating up.
Ipswich Town and Southampton are both capable of catching up if either Leeds or Leicester slip up. Thus, Leeds have to win their games and ignore about the talks of a title race.
Having said that, the momentum has shifted, and other clubs might feel they can take points off Leicester as well. It promises to be a thrilling race, and Leeds are definitely in the mix for the Championship title challenge.
