Jordan Henderson sends message to Diogo Jota as Liverpool forward ruled out for months due to fresh injury

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota is expected to be out of action for months after he was taken off with a knee injury in the first-half against Brentford on Saturday.

The Portuguese only recently returned to action, featuring in the last seven Premier League games after a muscle injury kept him out of action for the majority of December.

Jota will now miss some weeks of action in a big blow to Liverpool, and he has taken to Instagram to react to the painful setback, with Jordan Henderson and some of his former and current teammates sending him their best wishes in the comment section.

Despite leaving the Reds last summer, the former captain remains a fan of the club and friends with his former teammates, and it is good to see him reacting to the latest news coming out of the club.

Jota has bagged six goals and four assists since returning to action on boxing day, and manager Jurgen Klopp will hope being without him at the moment will not derail their title challenge.

Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League table after 25 games, but only a point separates them from second-placed Manchester City.

The Reds face Chelsea in the final of the Carabao Cup on Sunday before facing Southampton next Wednesday in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Liverpool are also in the quarter-finals of the Europa League and are desperate to win all four competitions, but injuries to a key player like Jota will not do their chances any good.

The 27-year-old is not the only player unavailable, with Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez both likely to miss the league game against Luton Town tonight.

The duo could return for the Chelsea game but the likes of Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, Joel Matip, Ben Doak, Stefan Bajcetic and Dominik Szoboszlai remain long-term absentees.
