Jurgen Klopp will be thrilled by Lewis Koumas progress at Liverpool academy

Liverpool youngster Lewis Koumas has been in sparkling form and he could be set for a senior chance.

The 18-year-old started for the Reds Under-21 side on Sunday and scored twice. With those two goals, he took his tally to 15 goals for the season.

Liverpool U-21 boss Barry Lewtas has showered praise on Koumas, and hailed him as “excellent”.

“He is scoring for fun! I’ve got to mention the two passes for his goals. The first, Calum Scanlon, and then Jayden Danns’ pass, they deserved to be finished. He took his goals ever so well,” said  Lewtas.

“The runs in behind he makes, I wouldn’t want to play against him. He gives us a real outlet as well in terms of his runs, the way he competes and the way he dribbles. There were a few nice moments where he was bringing Bobby Clark in, so I thought Lewis was excellent.”

According to a report from the Daily Express, Koumas was recently spotted in first-team training, and Liverpool are set to promote the academy product.

There has been a flu going around his squad, and Klopp is looking to bring Liverpool academy players to bolster his numbers both on matchdays and in training.

The youngster has also provided three assists, and many feel that he is now ready to make contributions to the senior side.

He is a highly talented young player and Jurgen Klopp could be tempted to give him some game time. Klopp has given chances to many young academy talents, and some of them are really shining for the first team.

With Mohamed Salah still not fully fit enough, there could be a chance that Klopp might give a chance to Koumas. Liverpool do not have any out-an-out striker, so Koumas could be an interesting option from the bench if Klopp thinks he’s good enough.
