Leeds United stay in hunt to sign Joe Worrall

Nottingham Forest captain Joe Worrall signs contract extension

Leeds United are still in the hunt to sign Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall on the transfer deadline day.

The Whites are looking to bolster their defence before the 11 pm deadline today, and signing a full-back and a centre-back is a priority for Daniel Farke.

Earlier today, several media outlets reported that Leeds are “close” to signing Burnley defender Connor Roberts.

According to a report from The Athletic, Worrall could leave Forest today. He is one of the many players who could move away from the Premier League club. Sheffield United and Fenerbahce are also keen along with Leeds for his signature.

While he could join any Championship club today, there is a chance he could be tempted to move abroad.

Smart signing?

Leeds should look to bring in another centre-back and Worrall on loan would be a fantastic addition.

The 27-year-old has made over 220 appearances for Forest but he is looking for a new adventure. He is on £50k-per-week deal at City Ground.

Alan Nixon (patreon) reported earlier this month that Forest are demanding a fee of around £6m for Worrall, but definitely, Leeds will not pay that amount. Only, if he is allowed to leave on loan, Leeds can make a late move to sign him.

Worrall is an interesting choice for Leeds. They have been linked with a move for Ben Godfrey this month, but the Whites haven’t been able to broker a deal for him. Leeds have Pascal Struijk, Charlie Cresswell, and Joe Rodon as primary options, while Liam Cooper is still around.

With the player looking to leave as well, could Leeds make a late move and get him on board? Serge Aurier and Ethan Horvath are both likely to leave Forest by the end of the day while Orel Mangala’s move to Lyon is all agreed. Likewise, Divock Origi is also facing an uncertain future at the club.
