Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso is already in advanced discussions with Liverpool to succeed Jurgen Klopp in the summer, according to Kicker journalist Georg Holzner.
However, remaining with the Bundesliga leaders has not been completely ruled out for the Spaniard while Bayern Munich will also give everything to land him.
The reigning German champions want Alonso to replace Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season when their current manager is set to leave the club, but it appears Liverpool are ahead of them in the queue to recruit his services.

Returning to Merseyside to manage his former club could be very appealing to the former midfielder, but he is a man in demand after an impressive campaign with Leverkusen.
Other clubs could join Liverpool and Bayern in the race for his services, and nothing is guaranteed until he signs on the dotted lines for his next employers.
The Reds could end up winning four trophies this term, and whoever that will be replacing Klopp has a huge job on his hands.
Liverpool are also looking for a new sporting director who is expected to play a huge role in the appointment of their next manager.
They have reached out to Alonso from the look of things, and whether both parties will reach an agreement anytime soon remains to be seen.
With Bayern now looking for a new manager this summer, the Spaniard will be taking his time to access his options.
They are the biggest club in Germany and one of the best in Europe, so it is safe to say joining them will tempt any manager if they come calling.
Liverpool are also an attractive side without any doubt, and Alonso has a selection headache to solve in the coming weeks as two football heavyweights go head to head for his signature.
