Liverpool are exploring their options as they continue their search for a replacement for Jurgen Klopp, and Germany national team manager Julian Nagelsmann has emerged as a target, according to the Telegraph.
The Reds remain keen on landing Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, but Bayern Munich want the Spaniard to replace Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.
As a result, Liverpool are ready to move on should a move for their former midfielder fall through, and Nagelsmann has emerged as a target.
Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim is also an option for the Anfield club, but the 39-year-old is contracted for another two seasons after this summer with the Portuguese top-flight club, and Liverpool would have to pay compensation.
However, Nagelsmann is out of contract with the German Football Association after this summer’s European championships, and would be available once Germany are eliminated from the competition.
The 36-year-old left Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola ‘really, really impressed’ back in 2018 when Hoffenheim faced his side in the Champions League.
Nagelsmann has since managed RB Leipzig and Bayern, and Liverpool will be getting a top manager should they opt for him in the end.
The German became the most expensive manager ever when Bayern appointed him in 2021 for a world record managerial transfer worth €25 million, and he won the Bundesliga title in his debut season and two German Super Cups before he was dismissed in March 2023.
Despite the dismissal, Nagelsmann remains a very highly rated manager given his ability when it comes to squad development, style of play and spending, and he has what it takes to take Liverpool to the next level.
Succeeding Klopp will not come easy for any manager given his achievements with the Reds, but the youngster will fancy his chances and could be the perfect replacement FSG are craving.
