Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson could be out until March

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is missing several key players due to injuries at the moment and could pick inexperienced youngsters ahead of their Premier League clash against Luton Town.

One of the players who won’t be featuring against Luton on Wednesday night is Alisson. Klopp confirmed on Tuesday in the pre-match press conference that the 31-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper has picked up a muscle injury.

Alisson didn’t play in the 4-1 win against Brentford and he is not expected to return any time soon. Brazil’s coach said on TNT Sport that Alisson will be out for the upcoming international games, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano.

The reliable journalist wrote on X: “It means Alisson will not return before the end of March.”

Big blow for Liverpool

Missing Alisson for a long period is indeed a big blow for the club. The Brazilian is a world-class goalkeeper who brings stability at the back.

Caoimhin Kelleher is a reliable goalkeeper, no doubt, but Alisson provides assurance and calmness at the back. Liverpool will hope that he can return to action before 10 March against Manchester City, but it seems that is unlikely to happen.

Liverpool will also be without Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota for at least over a month after the duo picked up injuries against Brentford. Both of them were playing brilliantly and the injuries have come at the wrong time.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai are close to returning to first-team training, so it would not be a big surprise if they make a swift return to the side against Chelsea.

Joel Matip is a long-term absentee after tearing his ACL. Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez are both doubtful for the game against Luton, but Klopp has assured the fans that their situations are not out of hand.
