Liverpool are about to enter their crucial phase of the season and the next few games are massive for them.
The Reds will face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday where they could win their first trophy of the season. They have another FA Cup game against Southampton after that, and then back-to-back Premier League games, including the mammoth clash against Manchester City.
Liverpool are also reportedly in talks to appoint Xabi Alonso as their next manager. Jurgen Klopp has already confirmed that he will leave at the end of the season, and the Reds have earmarked the Spaniard as their next manager.
At the moment, Liverpool have enough on their plate to deal with rather than focusing on potential next signings, but it appears that they are working behind the scenes to closely follow players they admire.
Liverpool want to sign Teun Koopmeiners
According to a report from Calciomercato, the Reds are one of the clubs showing keen interest in signing Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners in the next summer window and are in the front row in the race.
Tottenham Hotspur are also in the race for the Dutch midfielder, while Juventus are also keeping tabs on him. The Old Lady, however, may not be able to compete with the two Premier League clubs for his signature.
The Serie A club have not decided whether Koopmeiners will be an “expendable” player next summer. They sold Rasmus Hojlund to Manchester United last summer for a fee of around 80m Euros, and they could demand huge money for the 25-year-old midfielder.
The Netherlands central midfielder has managed seven goals and three assists this season in the Serie A. He has scored two goals in the Coppa Italia. He is also capable of playing as a defensive midfielder.
He manages around 1.3 tackles and 2.2 key passes which shows he is a complete midfield package. Last summer, Liverpool signed a raft of new midfielders, but one could feel that they may look to add one more to their ranks.
In case, they attempt to sign him, they won’t have secret agents to convince him to move to Anfield. Both Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo are doing great for Liverpool, and Koopmeiners could be tempted to join them at club levels.
