Liverpool are keen to sign a new defender in the summer transfer window and they have earmarked Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi as an option.
The Reds will go through a major rebuilding process in the summer transfer window. Their highly successful and popular manager, Jurgen Klopp will leave the club at the end of the season.
Also, Liverpool will be looking to sign a new sporting director as well. It appears that the Reds are already planning for the summer window, and Guehi could be targeted.
According to a report from The Telegraph, the Reds could face competition from Manchester United for Guehi. Crystal Palace will have a tough fight on their hands to keep the 23-year-old defender with them.
Guehi joined Palace in 2021 for £18m from Chelsea. He has a £44k-per-week contract at Selhurst Park until 2026, and Palace are expected to demand a fee of more than £50m for him.
Chelsea, who are also looking to sign a new defender, could be interested in signing Guehi, but Liverpool can tempt him with the offer of Champions League football. Guehi has little prospect of extending his deal at the London club.
Liverpool may have found replacement for Joel Matip
The Reds should have signed a new defender in the summer window but the situation forced them to reshape their midfield completely. Klopp was happy with the available resources, but next summer, there will be a change.
Joel Matip, who unfortunately picked up an ACL tear, has only a few months left on his contract. Liverpool are unlikely to offer him a new deal at this stage.
Furthermore, the Reds need to plan for the future, and they must actively think about finding a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk as well.
Guehi has been a terrific performer for Crystal Palace and Danny Murphy said recently that he is good enough to perform in the Champions League. He has got Premier League experience, and Liverpool should be able to meet his transfer value in the summer.
