Liverpool teen sensation Trey Nyoni on standby ahead of Luton Town clash

Liverpool will be without a host of key players when they take on Luton Town in the Premier League on Wednesday night (21 February).

The Reds are competing in all four competitions, but injuries to several key players during this crucial phase of the season could hurt them.

Ahead of the match, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota have joined the long list of absentees.

To make matters worse, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez, both scored in the previous game against Brentford, are major doubts for this game. Nunez is being monitored, while Salah complained of fatigue.

Both the players could be rested for this game with the big Carabao Cup clash coming up against Chelsea.

According to Paul Joyce of The Times, Liverpool teenage sensation Trey Nyoni is on “standby” as Klopp could look to young talents to fill up the squad.

The 16-year-old made his Liverpool U-21 side last year and made the Premier League squad against Brentford which Liverpool won 3-0. While he didn’t play the game, it shows how highly Klopp rates him.

The Reds are also missing goalkeeper Alisson with a muscle injury and he is unlikely to be back before the international break.

Trent Alexander Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai are on the mend but they haven’t trained this week.

In the absence of so many players, the door could open for the likes of Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz. Harvey Elliott is capable of playing on the right hand side in the front three, and he has proved to be a reliable option always.

According to a report from The Athletic, 19-year-old Kaide Gordon, who has already made six appearances for the club, could come into contention.

Lewis Koumas and Jayden Danns, who have both impressed at youth level, could also make the squad on Wednesday night. Youngsters James McConnell and Bobby Clark could be involved in some capacity as well.
