Micah Richards raves about Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite

Everton are yet to win a Premier League game in 2024 but young defender Jarrad Branthwaite continues to impress.

The 21-year-old defender recently stated that he needs to score more goals, but no one imagined that he would score like a seasoned striker.

Branthwaite scored the opening goal for the Toffees against Brighton but a late goal from Lewis Dunk ended their hopes of picking up all three points.

Speaking on BBC Match of the Day, Micah Richards has showered praise on Branthwaite, as he pointed out his aggressive qualities while watching his footage. The popular football pundit, who also works for Sky Sports among others, has hailed him as a “magnificent” defender.

“If he keeps up [possible candidate for the Euros], he is so good,” said Richards on Match of the Day.

“I want to show you some of his attributes. First one, really aggressive here. The way he moves back his feet to block and gets back on in the position just on the line if anything comes that way. His overall game is magnificent.”

Brathwaite has been outstanding for Everton

It is not clear at the moment what the verdict of the appeal would be like, but Everton need to carry on doing their job. If they get some points back, it will give them a new sense of belief, but if the original decision doesn’t change, they will have to find a way to come out of this situation.

At the moment, the Toffees are struggling to get three points on board. They drew 1-1 against Crystal Palace at home, and have now failed to pick up another win against a ten-man Brighton.

Branthwaite has been terrific for the Toffees. Last season, he spent time on loan at PSV Eindhoven, a move that helped him grow as a player. This season, he has become a regular for the Toffees, managing two goals in 23 starts in the Premier League.

If he keeps his form going, there is a possibility that Gareth Southgate might include him in the England squad for the Euros.

In other Everton news, Sean Dyche has confirmed that one Toffees midfielder has picked up groin injury.
