Liverpool will face Luton Town in the Premier League on Wednesday night (21 February) at Anfield and Jurgen Klopp will be without several key players.
The Reds are top of the Premier League table, leading by one point over Manchester City who won 1-0 against Brentford on Tuesday night.
They will be looking to maintain their winning run when they face Luton Town at home, but injuries to several key players are a major worry for Klopp.
As many as nine players have been ruled out already, including Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota, and now Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah are doubtful for this game.
According to Paul Joyce of The Times, Salah “complained of fatigue” after the match against Brentford which Liverpool won 4-1. Salah scored one goal and provided one assist during the game at the Gtech community stadium, but he is doubtful for this game.
“He [Nunez] felt that in that game and there was nothing around. We go day by day,” said Klopp, as quoted by The Times.
“It is day by day as well with Mo. It’s a similar area where he feels it [fatigue] a little bit. We have to see how it develops. It’s nothing crazy, but we have to see.”
Liverpool injury problems mounting up
It looks like both Nunez and Salah have not picked up serious injuries but they are likely to be given rest for this game.
While Luton can be a tough competitor, Liverpool will feel they have enough quality to see off the challenge, especially at home. With the crucial Carabao Cup final coming up, Klopp will hope that both Nunez and Salah can shake off their injuries.
Jota could be out for more than a month, and no timeline has been placed for Jones as well. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai are on the verge of returning to full fitness, but they haven’t trained this week.
Klopp could make at least four changes in the starting line-up from the previous game, with Harvey Elliott and Cody Gakpo likely to start on Wednesday night.
