Newcastle United have underperformed this season and are likely to miss out on European football this season.
Eddie Howe’s side find themselves at 10th in the Premier League table and they are badly struggling for consistency. However, they could end the season on a high by winning the FA Cup.
The Magpies are just one game away from reaching Wembley and they must prioritise winning the competition.
There are suggestions in the German press that Newcastle could look to sack Howe in the summer and replace him with Julian Nagelsmann.
The 36-year-old is now managing the German national team. He did a brilliant job at both RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich and it doesn’t come as a big surprise that many top clubs will try to bring him to the club.
However, Newcastle are not looking to part ways with Eddie Howe. According to journalist Craig Hope, the Magpies believe that Howe is the right man to take the club forward and he is a part of the long-term project. The club are planning for a busy summer ahead.
“Reiterated today that Eddie Howe is the man Newcastle are invested in & believe in for the long term. Plans in the making for a busy summer,” wrote Hope on X.
“This comes after reports of interest in Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann in the German press earlier.”
Newcastle must stick with Howe
Howe took the Magpies to a top-four finish last season. This season it’s been a different story. But a broader perspective is needed.
Newcastle have gone through the entire season without several first-team players due to injuries. It’s really unfortunate, but that is something beyond Howe’s control.
Sandro Tonali, the big-money signing from AC Milan, also missed the entire season through suspension. Plus, the Magpies are walking on tight ropes in maintaining the PSR rules which means they need to sell some of their players to balance the books.
Nagelsmann is a fantastic manager, no doubt, but Newcastle must give Howe one more season to turn it around. It would be unfair on him if they sack him in the summer, especially knowing under what circumstances he has worked with the team.
