Newcastle United could be without their top striker Callum Wilson for their next Premier League game against AFC Bournemouth.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, the 31-year-old striker has picked up a pectoral injury and the Magpies are sweating over his fitness.
Wilson started in the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend and got into a tangle with a defender towards the end of the match.
Eddie Howe has confirmed that the striker has picked up an injury and he will be assessed before the weekend’s game against the Cherries.
The Magpies are hopeful that Wilson can shake off the injury, and they will be able to manage the pain. He will be keen to play against his former club, but any decision will take place only at the weekend.
Uncertain future
Wilson was targeted by a host of clubs in the January transfer window but Newcastle managed to keep him with them.
According to a fresh report from the Daily Mail, the Magpies could struggle to keep him at the Tyneside beyond the summer, with a move abroad is a possibility.
He is being targeted by Saudi clubs, and given the club’s financial situation, they could be tempted to offload him.
Newcastle are expected to sell some of their players to comply with the financial rules, and Wilson, who is on £46k-per-week deal at St James’ Park, could be heading out of the club.
Wilson has been a massive hit at Tyneside, and he has an impressive goalscoring record for the club. The striker has less than 18 months left on his current deal, and therefore the Magpies could be tempted to let him go if they receive a handsome fee for him.
Newcastle are unlikely to finish in the top four this season, and they will have to reconsider their transfer strategy next summer. While several Premier League showed interest in signing him, a move abroad, especially to Saudi clubs, is more likely.
