The race for the top four is getting equally thrilling this season, with Aston Villa and Tottenham expected to battle it out for the final Champions League spot.
Villa will travel to Kenilworth Road to face Luton Town, while Tottenham will take on Crystal Palace in the London derby clash this week.
Unai Emery’s side have picked up back-to-back wins and are heading into the game on the back of a 4-2 win against Nottingham Forest. Tottenham haven’t played since the 2-1 defeat against Wolves on 17 February, and the break must have given them ample time to refill their batteries.
All eyes are on the Premier League title race this season, with three teams fighting it out for the top prize in the country. Liverpool are leading the table at the moment, but Manchester City and Arsenal are likely to challenge them to the end.
Thus the top three spots are taken, but it’s unclear who will grab the fourth spot.
Paul Merson has suggested that Aston Villa are likely to grab the fourth spot. The popular pundit thinks that Manchester United are miles away from the top-four race, while Spurs are too open at the back.
“I think Manchester United are a million miles off the race for a top-four spot at the moment, so it’s between Tottenham and Villa,” said Merson.
“At the moment, I think I’ll go for Villa to secure UEFA Champions League football next season as Spurs are too open at the back for my liking.”
Villa are five points ahead of Spurs who have played a game less. So, the north London outfit need to win their game in hand to close the gap with Villa.
Ange Postecoglou has done a superb job so far in his first season, and getting into the top four should be their primary aim now. Postecoglou will need at least two or three transfer windows to rebuild the squad to his taste, and it will be seen as a huge sign of progress if he can take the side to a top-four finish.
