Rangers misfit Sam Lammers has admitted that he is not sure about what the future holds for him at Ibrox.
The 26-year-old joined Ibrox in the summer of 2023 and made 31 appearances in his first season at the club, scoring two goals.
He has a contract with the Bears until 2027 but doubts remain whether he features at all in Philippe Clement’s long-term plans.
Lammers struggled for regular games this season, and the club wanted to offload him in January. He was linked with a move to Sunderland, but any potential deal didn’t materialize.
The striker joined Dutch club Utrecht where he is supposed to stay until the end of the season. He says that the decision was “unexpected” as he signed a long-term deal at the club.
He wasn’t prepared to leave, but Utrecht made an effort to sign him. The former Atalanta striker says he will consider his future after the end of the season.
“We have not looked beyond this second half of the season, we will see what happens next after the season has ended,” said Lammers, as quoted by Evening Times.
“But during the period that I am here, I want to have an impact.
“It was unexpected when I was told I could go on loan because it was after a period with a lot of playing time.
“I had signed a four-year contract in Scotland with the intention of staying in the same place for a long time. And I didn’t have to leave either.”
Need to make an impact
It is still early to say that his career at Rangers is completely over. Clement did the right thing by sending him away on loan, as he needed to play regularly.
In a way that suggests that Clement wasn’t too impressed with him in training, but he can always make a big impact during his loan spell, and prove a point to his manager.
Having said that, Clement would love to add better players next summer, especially if Rangers end up winning the Scottish Premiership title this season.
