Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim is currently seen as the most desirable candidate for the Liverpool job if Xabi Alonso decides to go elsewhere, according to the Independent.
The Reds want the Bayer Leverkusen manager to replace Jurgen Klopp as their next boss in the summer, but the 42-year-old is also on the radar of Bayern Munich and could be tempted to join them instead.
While Liverpool will push hardest to get their former midfielder, Amorim is also emerging as a main contender in their search to replace their German manager.
The 39-year-old has been in charge of the Primeira Liga club since 2020, winning a league title, two Portuguese League Cups and one Portuguese Super Cup since.
The former Braga boss is also attracting the interest of major clubs, although not to the degree of Alonso, and is currently seen as a likelier option for the Liverpool job than Brighton & Hove Albion’s Roberto De Zerbi.
Amorim has a 70% win percentage with Sporting and he left Braga with a 77% win percentage.
The Portuguese plays an intensive pressing style and his teams attempt to win the ball back in the final third, so Liverpool could be getting a perfect successor in him should Alonso move to Bayern or elsewhere.
Amorim has been linked with the Premier League several times, with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United some of the clubs that once had him on their radar.
Moving to the English top-flight would be tempting to the young manager, and he could find it difficult to say no should Liverpool come calling.
His communication skills, tactical knowledge and flexibility have attracted the Reds from the look of things, and while their fans will hope Alonso returns to Anfield, getting Amorim should the Spaniard consider other options will not be a bad idea given his reputation.
