Arsenal closed the gap with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table to just two points after they comfortably defeated Burnley on Saturday.
The Gunners secured a 6-0 win against West Ham last week, and they continued their impressive form here and earned a 5-0 win. Mikel Arteta will be very pleased to see that his side has kept clean sheets in back-to-back games.
Martin Odegaard scored the opening goal with a brilliant volley from outside of the box inside five minutes. Bukayo Saka scored twice, while Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz scored to secure all three points for the north London club.
Tim Sherwood, who was analyzing the game for the Premier League TV production, was heavily impressed by Trossard. The 29-year-old attacker missed a chunk of the season through injury, but he has been a key player for the side.
Trossard curled the ball past the Burnley goalkeeper, and Sherwood says that the Belgian has been an “outstanding” signing for the club.
“Trossard just uses the defender to bend this round the goalkeeper. He affects football matches, either with assists or goals. He has been an outstanding signing,” said Sherwood.
Arsenal look real deal for the title challenge
Trossard, who is on £90k-per-week deal, has started just nine games in the Premier League, and a further 12 appearances have come from the bench. Sherwood is absolutely spot on that Trossard is very effective with his contributions.
He has scored seven goals in the Premier League and a further two have come in the Champions League.
Trossard enjoyed his best football at Brighton where he was one of their star players. He moved to Arsenal in the January window of the 2022-23 season.
Arsenal have a wealth of attacking options, and Trossard is one of those players who can be relied on to make a difference. The Gunners are looking like a strong team this season, and they have better quality than last term.
Last season, they ran out of steam towards the end, but hopefully they’ll learn from the experience, and take the title race to the wire.
