Tony Dorigo sends brilliant message to Leeds United fans after win v Leicester

Leeds United have closed the gap at the top of the Championship table to six points after they won 3-1 against Leicester City on Friday night (23 February).

Until the 80th minute, it felt like the Foxes would win this game after they had taken the lead in the first half. But Leeds who have remained undefeated at Elland Road this season (13 wins and four draws), refused to give up.

Conor Roberts came from the bench and levelled the tie. From there on, the Elland Road atmosphere, which was already electric throughout, took a different dimension. And after Archie Gray found the net via a deflection, the crowd went mad.

It was wild. The fans went crazy, and after Patrick Bamford scored in the end to seal all three points, it led to pandemonium in the stands. Tony Dorigo took to X to thank the Leeds fans, and he described them as “magnificent”.

“For all the Leeds United fans at Elland Road tonight – you were magnificent!”, wrote Dorigo on X.

Can Leeds United win the Championship title?

Leeds United fans are known for their passion and Elland Road has earned its fame for being able to produce an electrifying atmosphere.

Certainly, the support did push the players to go for the kill and the last ten minutes have been absolutely wild. The race for promotion is wide open. Ipswich Town and in the mix while Southampton aren’t too far away.

David Prutton wrote for the Yorkshire Evening Post that Leeds can win the Championship title if they beat Leicester. They have reduced the gap to six points, and the Whites probably would feel they have a great chance here.

Of course, Leicester will need to drop points at the same time, but the recent defeats will encourage others that it’s possible to take points off them. Leeds have won all their Championship games in 2024 but they still need to stay focussed to get the job done.
