Tottenham Hotspur did their best to add quality players to their ranks in the January window, and Ange Postecoglou will be happy with the signings he has made.
The focus shifts back to football and they have a race on their hand to secure Champions League football for next season. It won’t be easy though with Aston Villa currently securing the fourth spot, having taken a two-point lead.
In the backend, the north London club are continuously looking at players who could improve them. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Lille striker Jonathan David has been considered by Tottenham.
Along with PSG, a host of other clubs including Spurs are keen to land the 24-year-old attacker. Jacobs says that Chelsea were interested in him but no approaches were mere by the Blues last month.
“David has been considered by Spurs,” wrote Jacobs on Daily Briefing.
“Chelsea were linked with him in January although my understanding is there was no approach or consideration for the Canadian striker last month. Perhaps the links stem from Graham Potter, who liked David’s profile when he was still at the club, but I am not aware of any serious discussion over him since.”
Interesting option
Spurs did not sign any out-an-out striker following the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, but they are definitely going to sign one, especially if they book a place for next season’s Champions League.
The north London club signed Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig and they have an option to sign him permanently at the end of the season. Richarlison has been in fantastic form, and he remains another major option.
Jacobs says that “Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Lille’s Jonathan David could also be on the move this year”, which means Spurs have a chance to get him on board during the summer window. The Canadian striker has managed eight goals and an assist in 17 starts in Ligue 1 this season.
