Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea could bid for Barcelona forward Raphinha in the summer

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur would be willing to bid for Barcelona attacking midfielder Raphinha in the summer, according to Spanish outlet Sport.

The Brazil international is expected to return from an injury layoff this weekend but has largely struggled to impress this term, with just three goals to his name in 18 appearances across all competitions.

Raphinha has also weighed in with six assists in those games, but manager Xavi and Barca admire academy graduate Lamine Yamal more, with the 17-year-old playing more games so far.

The cash-strapped club could sell the Brazilian this summer to raise much-needed funds, and Spurs and Chelsea have been tipped to move for him.

The Blues were linked with the 27-year-old in the summer of 2022, but whether they will renew their interest when the transfer window reopens remains to be seen.

They are well-stocked in attack and are unlikely to be willing to splash the cash on another forward.

Raphinha was a threat to opposition defences during the two seasons he spent in the Premier League, bagging 17 goals and 12 assists in 65 appearances.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was full of praise for the South American after Leeds United defeated his side back in April 2021, dubbing him ‘an exceptional player with good pace’.

Raphinha still boasts his pace and finishing, and a return to the Premier League could appeal to him.

Tottenham are yet to replace Harry Kane but both Son Heung-Min and Richarlison have stepped up leading their attack, and whether manager Ange Postecoglou indeed wants another forward is unknown.

Nevertheless, Raphinha will fancy his chances should a move to Spurs or Chelsea work out in the summer, and it will be intriguing to see what happens with his immediate future at the La Liga club.
