Willy Gnonto sends message to Leeds United teammate Georginio Rutter

Leeds United didn’t find it easy against Plymouth Argyle but they did just enough to pick up yet another victory.

The Whites are undefeated in 2024 and have picked up eight wins in a row under Daniel Farke. They are second in the Championship and are riding high on momentum at the moment.

Leeds picked up a 2-0 win today, with goals coming from Willy Gnonto and Georginio Rutter. Unlike their previous win against Swansea, this one wasn’t easy as Plymouth did put up a strong fight.

Plymouth applied pressure in the second half of the game and kept Illan Meslier busy. Just when it seemed that Leeds are losing their composure, a tactical change from Farke paid dividends as Joel Piroe turned into a provider for Rutter.

After the game, Rutter took to Instagram to share his reaction. He wrote: “the life of johnny (translated)”.

Gnonto responded to his post, by saying: “Man of the match”.

Huge Leeds turnaround for Rutter

Rutter joined Leeds last season in the January transfer window when they were playing in the Premier League. The Whites paid for around £30million ($37m) and broke their transfer record.

The 21-year-old struggled to adapt to the pace of the league, and it appeared that the signing was a disaster. Leeds got relegated and many feared that Rutter could be sold in the summer.

However, Farke probably felt that he could get the best out of him. All Rutter needed was time and a bit of confidence from his manager.

The former Hoffenheim forward has mostly played behind the striker and has managed 11 assists in the Championship this season. He has also bagged six goals thus far.

Leicester City still lead the league table, and they are almost out of reach. Leeds are two points above Southampton but the Saints have played a game less. If Leeds can maintain this form for the rest of the season, they can dream of securing automatic promotion to the Premier League.
