Arsenal can beat Real Madrid in the Champions League – pundit

Arteta wants a more hostile atmosphere from Arsenal fans at the Emirates

Arsenal have been outstanding in recent weeks, having picked up seven wins out of their last eight games in all competitions.

The Gunners have picked up 21 points in the league from their last seven games. The only game they lost was against FC Porto in the Champions League.

Arsenal need to win in the second leg to progress through to the next round of the competition. Given the kind of form they’re in, the Gunners are expected to win but it won’t be easy as they are trailing by 1-0 from the first leg.

Alan Brazil and Gabby Agbonlahor have suggested that the Gunners can beat Real Madrid if they face Los Blancos in the next round. Both watched Madrid in action against RB Leipzig on Wednesday and were left disappointed.

Agbonlahor says Madrid were “terrible” last night, but they still managed to pick up a 1-1 draw, and 2-1 win on aggregate as they move into the quarter-finals of the competition.

“I think if you’re Arsenal, and you can get through the Porto tie, I think Arsenal beat Real Madrid and PSG over two legs,” said Agbonlahor on talkSPORT on 7 March.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” responded Brazil.

“The way Arsenal are playing I don’t think they are scared of anyone, mate,” added Agbonlahor.

Bold predictions

Arsenal are one of the contenders for the Premier League title this season, but their European hopes are hanging in balance at the moment.

They are expected to beat Porto at the Emirates, but the Gunners could come under pressure if they concede early.

Real Madrid are serial winners of this competition, and it would be foolish to assume that the Gunners would beat them easily based on one performance.

After all, we are talking about a side that are top of the La Liga table, and Carlo Ancelotti’s side are capable of shifting gears whenever they want.

Arsenal, meanwhile, will face Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday (9 March) at the Emirates and they will be hoping to maintain the winning run.
