Arsenal in hunt to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres

Irrespective of where they finish at the end of the season, Arsenal will look to sign a new striker next summer.

The Gunners didn’t sign a new striker during the January transfer window with Mikel Arteta keeping faith in the players he has got. Since the turn of the year, Arsenal have been scoring freely but it’s apparent that a new striker is needed.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been linked with a move, but in recent weeks, the Gunners have been checking on other options, with Viktor Gyokeres emerging as one of their top targets.

According to a report from the Sunday Mirror (page 63), the 25-year-old striker is set to be sold in the summer by Sporting Lisbon. The Portuguese club are expected to demand a fee of around £68.5m for the striker who has been in “incredible” form this season.

Sporting signed him from Coventry City for a fee of around £20m. Chelsea and AC Milan are also looking to sign the striker who has managed a tally of 37 goals and 14 assists in 40 games for club and country this season.

Viktor Gyokeres would be top signing for Arsenal

Gyokeres took no time settling in at his new club and has been scoring for fun. The striker prefers a switch to the Premier League, and he would be a terrific signing for the Gunners if they make a move for him.

Arsenal could look to offload either Gabriel Jesus or Eddie Nketiah if they sign a new striker. Nketiah has managed five goals and two assists in 10 starts in the Premier League, and Arteta probably could be tempted to offload him.

Jesus has managed eight goals and five assists in all competitions this season and has struggled with injuries. Gyokeres has proved his class while playing for Sporting but the Gunners will have to pay a massive fee to land him in the summer.
