Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies has showered praise on one of his current teammates who works incredibly hard in training.
The 30-year-old defender joined Spurs from Swansea City in the summer transfer window of 2014 and has made over 325 appearances for the north London club.
He is now in his 10th season at the club and has played alongside many top players. Speaking to The Gab and Jul’s Show for ESPN, Davies has spoken about Gareth Bale, Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min – players with whom he has played at club and country levels.
Davies says that Bale and Kane are more naturally gifted attackers whereas Son has worked incredibly hard to be the player he has become today. Son joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015 and is approaching his 400th appearance for the club.
The 31-year-old has scored 159 goals for Tottenham in all competitions and is arguably one of the finest attacking midfielders the Premier League has seen.
What Davies has said about his Tottenham teammate
Davies said: “Sonny is one of my best friends and we have played together for ages. He’s worked, like you probably look at the other two they were both so natural.
“Harry could strike a ball, not saying Harry didn’t work like I said finishing every day, but Sonny from day one the technical aspect, working with his dad as a kid, when he arrived at Spurs it was left foot, right foot, gym work, his whole life is dedicated to football.
“If anybody deserves the success he’s having it’s him purely because of that effort he puts in. The pressure behind him to perform every single week is insane but he turns up and is really thriving as a captain of the team, he has got that responsibility, he is one of the hardest workers in training every day, and what an incredible player.”
Son and Davies both enjoying great season for Spurs
Davies has suggested that when Ange Postecoglou arrived at the club, there was a level of apprehension about whether he would fit into the new manager’s plans. However, after the pre-season, it became clear that the Welshman would become a major player under Postecoglou.
The versatile defender has made 16 appearances in the Premier League, playing mostly as a centre-back. Davies recently suffered heartbreak after Wales failed to qualify for the 2024 Euro Championships as they lost to Poland on penalties.
Son, on the other hand, has enjoyed a phenomenal campaign. He has scored 14 goals in the Premier League and has registered eight assists in 25 appearances. Spurs are aiming to secure a place in next season’s Champions League, and the duo are expected to play a big role for the rest of the season.
