Crystal Palace receive huge boost to sign Ben Johnson

Crystal Palace are expected to undergo a massive rebuilding work in the summer transfer window under Oliver Glasner.

The Eagles are unlikely to get involved in the relegation battle, rather a few more wins will take them high up in the Premier League table. It’s also high time, they must plan for the summer.

In the January transfer window, Palace were heavily linked with a move for West Ham defender Ben Johnson.

The 24-year-old defender, who has emerged from the Hammeras academy, was wanted by a host of clubs like Palace and Leeds, but David Moyes blocked the move in the end.

Johnson has made only four starts in the Premier League this season, and a further five have come from the bench.

According to a report from Claret and Hugh, the defender will be allowed to leave West Ham for free. He has demanded to be paid around £50k-per-week, but the Hammers are reluctant to pay as they want him to be a squad player instead.

The news will come as a major boost for Palace who could sign him for free in the summer window. Glasner could be interested in bringing players of his choice, but Johnson on a free transfer could appeal to him.

Not only he can play as a right-back, centre-back, as well as a left-back, but the defender has shown qualities playing in midfield as well. While he may have dropped down the pecking order this season, Johnson has proved his quality as a reliable Premier League player.

Palace could lose centre-back Marc Guehi in the summer transfer window, and Glasner would be more than willing to sign a utility player like Johnson.

The Eagles won’t mind giving him the wages he demands. The move could also work for Johnson, as it will not only mark a fresh start in his career, but he would also be playing regularly at Selhurst Park.
