Dave Edwards blown away by Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze

Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze was inches away from scoring one of the goals of the season against Luton Town.

The Eagles were very close to sealing all three points but a late goal from Cauley Woodrow saw Luton snatch a crucial point.

Palace took an early lead through a “phenomenal” goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta but once again they dropped points from the winning position.

In the second half, Eze, who was superb throughout the game, produced an outrageous effort from 50 yards out, but his effort was just inches away from hitting the target.

Dave Edwards, who often shares his punditry for Sky Sports, while co-commentating on the game for Premier League World feed, hailed the effort from Eze as “magnificent”.

“Magnificent, wasn’t it? Everyone loves watching Eze play. Not just the audacity but the technique…50 yards shot and he was inches away,” said Edwards.

What the future holds for Eberechi Eze

Eze was outstanding for the Eagles against Luton. The 25-year-old has missed a lot of games through injury this season, but he has to play a key role for Palace as they look to stay clear of the relegation zone, although they are unlikely to be drawn into the relegation dog fight.

Manchester City showed keen interest in signing Eze last summer and there are suggestions that his performances this season may have caught their attention as well.

Eze is focussed on finishing the season strongly but what happens in the summer is uncertain. Palace are in strong negotiating position for Eze who has a contract at Selhurst Park until 2027.

The midfielder brings a lot to the game with his guile, creativity and energy and he could be a key player under Oliver Glasner.

The Eagles centre-back Marc Guehi has been targeted by several Premier League clubs, and Palace could lose other key players next summer including Eze.
