Everton could undergo a massive redevelopment project next summer while no one really knows what the future holds for them.
If the Toffees fail to secure Premier League safety, they are definitely going to sell some of their first-team key players. The ownership issue is still not resolved, and the Toffees are stuck in limbo.
At the moment, the main focus for the Toffees is to avoid relegation. Everton are 16th in the league table, four points above the drop zone, and are facing the prospect of another point deduction.
They not in a position to focus on transfers, but going by reports, it seems the likes of Amadou Onana and Jarrard Branthwaite could leave Goodison Park next summer.
Arsenal were heavily linked with a move for Onana in the January transfer window. It was suggested that Mikel Arteta wants to bolster his midfield areas and he wanted to sign the 22-year-old Belgian midfield dynamo.
However, Ryan Taylor confirmed that the Gunners didn’t enter any talks with Everton to sign him. David Ornstein of The Athletic has now suggested that while the Gunners do retain interest in him, they are highly unlikely to make an effort to sign the Belgian.
“I’m sure there is some appreciation for Onana at Arsenal and elsewhere, but I’m not sure if he will fit the profile or price bracket they will be looking for if they recruit in his position,” wrote Ornstein in a Q/A session with The Athletic.
“In the No.6 role we know Arteta likes Zubimendi (and there will be others), while if it’s a No.8 they go for there will be multiple options as well. I don’t really see this one happening but equally firm decisions probably haven’t been made yet.”
Everton could be forced to sell Amadou Onana
Sean Dyche is a big fan of the midfielder and the Toffees boss has praised him time and again this season.
Arsenal are likely to spend big next summer to bolster their squad and signing a new striker and a top-quality midfielder could be their priorities. However, as Ornstein has pointed out Onana is probably not the player they would try to sign.
Onana is a dynamic midfielder who could become a top-class midfielder in the future. He is progressing very well and could be looking to play for a big club next season. Most importantly, the Toffees could be forced to cash in on him, given their current plight and financial condition.
Bayern Munich are also interested in signing Onana who could cost more than £60 million on current market value.
