Early West Ham team news v Burnley

West Ham will face Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday (10 March) at the London Stadium.

The Hammers are heading into this game on the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Freiburg in the Europa League on Thursday.

However, West Ham have won back-to-back league games after a mini-slump in form and they are aiming for their third win in a row. Burnley are almost certain to go down this season and they are still looking for their first win in 2024.

Ahead of the match, David Moyes has shared the team news. He has confirmed that Maxwel Cornet will be missing for this game. The 27-year-old pulled up his hamstring before the game against Brentford, and he is still not fully fit yet.

Left-back Emerson has been one of the most improved players for West Ham this season. He is struggling with groin problems and will be assessed before the game. Nayef Aguerd is another player who could miss out.

“There’s no new updates. We will have a check on Emerson as he felt his groin and we will need to check how Nayef Aguerd is. We will be without Maxwel Cornet as well,” said Moyes.

Kalvin Phillips likely to get chance for West Ham

Phillips is likely to return to midfield after his suspension, and Moyes will be very pleased to have him back.

It has been a disastrous start for Phillips but Moyes believes that the England international will regain his best form that he showed for England and Leeds United.

Phillips barely played under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, and Moyes has suggested that the midfielder needs regular game time to regain his sharpness.

Burnley have struggled badly away from home, and this is a game the Hammers must win. It is important to react positively after the midweek defeat, and a comfortable win will put them in a positive frame of mind ahead of the big second leg at home.
