Liverpool have made contact to sign Antonee Robinson

Liverpool could be looking to sign a new versatile left-back in the summer transfer window.

The Reds are currently focussing on winning their remaining competitions after bowing out of the FA Cup, but behind the scenes, the club is working on identifying players who could improve the squad next season.

Jurgen Klopp will step down from his role at the end of the season and quite naturally he doesn’t need to think about transfer activities for the summer window. Fenway Sports Group have brought Michael Edwards back to the club in the CEO role, and the Reds are looking to appoint a new sporting director shortly.

Once the structure is ready, Liverpool can look forward to bringing in a new manager, although the process has started already. Edwards officially will start his job role after June, but he (and his team) would definitely be checking out talented players elsewhere, preparing the groundwork for the next manager.

According to a report from AS Roma Live, the Reds have already made contact with the agent of Fulham defender Antonee Robinson. The Cottagers have demanded a fee of around £35m and the Reds won’t have any problem in meeting that amount.

Fulham are monitoring several left-sided wingers as they look for replacements in case Robinson leaves the club.

Do Liverpool need a new left-back?

Liverpool have arguably one of the best left-backs in the Premier League in their ranks in the form of Andrew Robertson, and his deputy Kostas Tsimikas is equally reliable.

This season, Klopp has used Joe Gomez at left-back in some games, and the versatile defender did admirably well.

However, Robertson is now in his 30s and has looked far from his best after returning from a long injury lay-off. Tsimikas has mainly played in the cup games over the years and has featured only in the Premier League mainly when Robertson got injured.

While he is a good squad player to have on the side, the new management would want someone who will challenge Robertson for the starting role. Robinson has provided six assists in the Premier League this season, and he has produced some outstanding performances in recent months.

It won’t come as a big surprise if Liverpool decide to offload Tsimikas and bring in Robinson or any other exciting defender in the summer.
